LOOKING AFTER YOUR PETS THIS BONFIRE NIGHT
Fireworks can be frightening for dogs, cats and other animals. If your pet is nervous around loud noises, a little preparation can make a big difference.
- Keep pets safely indoors before the fireworks begin.
- Close windows, doors and curtains to help reduce noise and flashes.
- Create a quiet, comfortable space where your pet can retreat.
- Put on music or the TV to help mask the sound of fireworks.
- Make sure dogs are walked before the fireworks start.
- Keep pets away from open doors and windows — frightened animals may try to escape.
- Stay calm yourself. Your pet will often take reassurance from you.
- Never punish a pet for showing signs of fear.
